Turtle Education
At the very beginning, Mackay and District Turtle Watch Association recognised that to be fully effective in our aims, the group had to be active on two fronts. Apart from our monitoring activities to collect data and information on turtles in our area, we also had to be active in public education and raising community awareness. Monitoring and collection of data does not address the underlying issues that many turtles face. Therefore Mackay and District Turtle Watch Association is active in educating the community about turtle biology, nesting, climate change, the impact of marine debris and a range of other influencing factors.
